PRIMROSE Phiri, a dedicated youth leader of the Nelson Chamisa-led Citizens Coalition for Change in Bulawayo’s New Lobengula suburb, has found herself at the center of controversy and persecution.

As one of the founding members entrusted with the vital task of recruiting new members, Phiri was part of a group that embarked on door-to-door campaigns in the suburb. However, her efforts to engage with the community have resulted in accusations of convening illegal meetings, leaving her targeted by both Zanu-PF and local authorities.

According to a close relative of Phiri, who chose to remain anonymous due to safety concerns, the authorities have launched a manhunt for Phiri and her group over the alleged illegal meetings.

“We are deeply worried about Primrose’s safety as she has since gone into hiding, and we have no knowledge of her whereabouts,” the relative revealed.

The family is grappling with uncertainty and anxiety as they seek to ensure Phiri’s well-being in the face of ongoing intimidation and threats.

The unfolding situation has sparked concerns about the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms within the community.

Phiri’s commitment to engaging with her fellow citizens and advocating for change has seemingly placed her in the crosshairs of political scrutiny and persecution, raising questions about the state of democratic principles and civil liberties within the region.

As the search for Primrose Phiri continues, her story serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by civic leaders and activists who dare to speak out and mobilize for change in an increasingly tense political landscape.

The future remains uncertain for Phiri and those who share her aspirations, as they navigate the complexities of their activism amidst the pressures of state control and opposition reprisals.
