THE Bulawayo City Council has resumed the servicing of Luveve 5 stands which were issued in 2013 with residents expressing concern over the delays, saying it has taken too long for the local authority to provide the essential services as it grapples with a ballooning housing waiting list.

Bulawayo City Council senior public relations officer Mrs Nesisa Mpofu said work was in progress for water, sewer and roads servicing of the mentioned stands.

“The City of Bulawayo has started servicing the stands although there have been delays in completing the servicing. There has been significant progress made to date in servicing the area which is currently 53 percent complete.

“Work is in progress for water, sewer, and roads servicing and it is our hope that this should be completed as soon as possible,” she said.
Mrs Mpofu said there were a number of challenges bedevilling the servicing of the stands but could not spell them out in her response to question by the Sunday News.

Meanwhile, the Bulawayo City Council is set to connect water and sewer to 3 000 houses and hand over more than 1 200 residential stands to home seekers at the beginning of next month as it focuses on increasing access to water and sewer services by 10 percent.

Council’s director of Engineering Services, Engineer Simela Dube said this would be done under the Rapid Results Approach Programme which was targeting a number of projects to be implemented within 100 days.

He added that from the fully serviced 1 270 stands, 412 stands that were in Emganwini and Tshabalala suburbs would be handed over to residents while a total of 495 stands in Magwegwe North would be given out to beneficiaries and 390 stands were in Magwegwe West.

The city council said a 5,5 sewer line that runs from Mahatshula to the main treatment works would also be completed as part of the local authority’s efforts to minimise pollution in Umguza Dam.
