BULAWAYO City Football Club is reportedly set to recruit former Tsholotsho coach, Darlington Dodo as head coach as they seek better fortunes in 2018.

Impeccable sources at the Bulawayo City Council-owned side revealed the executive has opted to reassign the entire technical department led by Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu after what the executive considered a poor performance last year.

Coaches that include Dodo, former Highlanders coach, Amin Soma-Phiri and former Hwange gaffer, Nation Dube were reportedly interviewed for the job with Dodo said to have emerged the front-runner.

Veteran coach Barry Daka and Try Ncube are said to have been reassigned to the juniors with Zephaniah Ngodzo’s contract coming to an end while decisions are still to be made regarding Mpofu.

“The decision has been made although the coaches are yet to be informed, chances are high Dodo will be calling the shots from the dugout next year as City is hoping for an improved performance next year.

“Interviews were held mid-December and the inclination of the executive is to hire Dodo,” said the source.

He said City’s executive was not impressed by the run that saw them escape the dreaded chop by a whisker.

It took a last game drubbing of Bantu Rovers for City to ensure their survival in the top flight as they finished one point above 15th placed Harare City, who were demoted to Division One.

The source revealed the agony of having to fight relegation riled the executive hence the decision to seek a new coach.

City chairman, Jerry Sibanda, however, said nothing concerning the technical department had changed adding if there are any changes they would be announced next year.

“I cannot say anything at the moment concerning that we will be in a position to make a statement after the holidays,” he said.
