THERE was joy as well as jubilation at Donkwe-Donkwe Primary School in Kezi recentky when the school received a football kit as well as a soccer ball from their former student, Dumisani Ndlovu who is based in the United Kingdom.
Ndlovu, who did grade one and two at Donkwe-Donkwe in the early 80s before he moved to Bulawayo, is the brains behind the Dumisani Foundation, which has since 2015 been running an Under-15 soccer tournament for schools in Bulawayo and Matabeleland South.
Arthur Mpuli and Gibson Mpala, the Dumisani Foundation volunteers in Zimbabwe presented the soccer uniform made up of shirts and shorts to the school a day before the end of the third term. The kit was handed over to the headmaster Nkululeko Nyathi, sports director Tendai Mandizvidza and senior teacher Zibusiso Mlilo.
The kit donated was part of a consignment shipped into the country by Ndlovu with some of the uniforms already handed out to schools which are part of his tournament. Ethandweni Children’s Home in Matopo will also get a soccer kit from Dumisani Foundation.
Mpuli said they were looking to attend some of Donkwe-Donkwe Primary School’s matches next year to identify talented youngsters who can have their school fees paid for by the Dumisani Foundation.
In 2016, Ndlovu handed over a football kit to Donkwe-Donkwe High School and pledged more assistance to the school situated in the village where he grew up.
