A TORWOOD duo will spend the next two years in prison for snatching and drinking a teacher’s beer before attacking him with machetes.
The two accused persons Alfred (23) and Albert Moyo (18) who are brothers appeared before a Kwekwe magistrate Mr Story Rushambwa.
They were sentenced to serve an effective 18 months each after six months were suspended from each on condition that they do not commit a similar crime for the next five years. It is the State’s case as presented by the prosecutor, Mr Kudakwashe Chekai that on 11 October 2017, the two brothers were drinking at Front Page Bar where Dumisani Musvove, a teacher at Batanayi High School, was also drinking.
The court heard that on the day in question, the pair was behaving so violently and wildly forcing all other people to vacate the bar after they failed to control them. The complainant, who was also drunk at the time bought a beer which the rowdy pair snatched and started drinking.
Sensing danger, Musvove then left the bar intending to go to his house. The pair, however, followed him and struck him with a machete and a knife all over the body.
They were restrained by other imbibers who took him to Kwekwe General Hospital where he was further referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare. In mitigation, the pair denied the charge accusing fellow imbibers of having struck the complainant.
“We did not strike Musvove because both of us were attacked by the people who were at the club,” they explained in their statement.
Mr Rushambwa could have none of it and sentenced the pair to two years behind bars.
The magistrate condemned the barbaric manner in which the duo behaved saying it was a brutal way which exposed that they were unfit to remain in the society without corrective measures taken against them.
