FIRST Lady Dr Grace Mugabe who is also Zanu-PF Secretary for Women’s League has facilitated the acquisition of 10 fishing permits in Binga for about 100 women and youths as part of her quest to economically empower the two disadvantaged groups.

This is in fulfilment of a pledge that she made when she addressed a rally at Bulawayo Kraal Irrigation Scheme in Binga during her tour of the country during which she held star rallies.

The development was announced by the Zanu-PF Matabeleland North chairman, Cde Richard Moyo, yesterday, during a joint provincial council meeting held at Lupane Centre at which he handed the permits to the women and youth league representatives.

“I am pleased to announce to you that the First Lady Dr Mugabe has fulfilled her pledge to give women and youths fishing permits,” he said amid applause.

“There are five permits for women and five permits for youths. There are about 10 people per permit and the beneficiaries for the women allocation are all from Binga while that of the youths there is representation from other parts of Matabeleland. We would like to thank the First Lady for this support.”

Cde Moyo said the youths and women would hold ceremonies where they would officially hand over the permits to the beneficiaries.

Earlier during the meeting, Cde Moyo had also informed the meeting that Mr Tamuka Nyoni who was the party’s provincial youth chairman, had been expelled from the political organisation and a national youth member, Cde Wellington Tagarira was now the acting provincial chairperson.

Nyoni alongside six other provincial youth chairpersons: Godfrey Tsenengamu (Mashonaland Central), Godwin Gomwe (Harare), Vengai Musengi (Mashonaland West), Washington Nkomo (Matabeleland South), Khumbulani Mpofu (Bulawayo), Edmore Samambwa (Midlands) were expelled from the party for gross indiscipline and misconduct.

Cde Moyo warned other party members not to involve themselves in meetings outside their province which are not sanctioned by the party as they could end up in the same situation with Nyoni.

“He (Nyoni) was expelled,” he said in response to a question by the party’s Matabeleland North Provincial Political Commissar, Cde Martin Khumalo who sought clarification on Nyoni’s status.

“He (Nyoni) is no longer a member of the party.”

During the meeting it was also announced by the party’s Matabeleland North Provincial Secretary for Administration, Cde Douglas Khoza that Zanu-PF Politburo Member, Professor Jonathan Moyo, who is also Higher and Tertiary Education and Science and Technology Minister had contributed about $1 000 for the campaign in the Binga Ward One by-election scheduled for next month.

Another ward by-election in the province also scheduled for next month will take place in Bubi’s Ward 15. Zanu-PF is fielding Cde Tongai Mutale in Binga and Cde Meluleki Sibanda in Bubi who will both fight it out with independents.
