THE Ministry of Health and Child Care in Matabeleland North Province is delaying the construction of a mortuary at Nyamandlovu Clinic as it is reportedly failing to avail a building plan for the structure to the local leadership. Villagers at Nyamandlovu said they desperately need a mortuary as they are one of the few districts without a mortuary in the province. In their quest to have the mortuary set up, villagers moulded bricks which are lying idle at the site where the mortuary is set be built.
Ward 15 Councillor David Moyo, in whose area of jurisdiction the clinic falls under, said people were being frustrated by the health officials who were taking their time to avail the plan. He said people were facing numerous challenges which include burying their loved ones in a poor state.

“I am the one who was sent by Cde (Obert) Mpofu to get the plan so that we can begin constructing the mortuary. I have been frequenting district and provincial health offices in a bid to get the plan but my efforts have not been bearing fruits.

“The response I am getting is that they will give us the plan but we don’t know what is taking place. Rats feast on corpses at the clinic just because of a poor structure that is in place. Villagers need the mortuary and such developments should be quickly set up because it responds to people’s wishes,” said Clr Moyo.

Responding to people’s plea, Umguza legislator Dr Obert Mpofu said officials at the hospital have on several occasions failed to give him and his local leadership a building plan for the mortuary.
