LEADING gold miner, How Mine says it is expecting its gold output to increase by 50 percent this year compared to last year on the back of ramped up production after a capital injection of US$5 million.

The capital injection was used to sink a new shaft and opening of new mining areas at the mine.
Speaking at a tree planting day ceremony at the mine on Friday, How Mine managing director Mr Kimbton Chiota said the company continues to see an increase in production over the years and will contribute immensely towards the US$12 billion target for the mining industry by 2023.

“Mining and milling production records in the known history of the mine have been broken this year.

“We are forecasting more than 50 percent increase in gold production this year, compared to the previous year.

“This improved performance is on the back of a capital injection of US$5 million for the shaft sinking project, which opened up new mining areas.

“The mine is currently carrying out exploration, both on surface and underground, in order to open up the resource base for expansion, as it remains focused on contributing towards the Government’s target of a US$12 billion mining industry by the year 2023,” said Mr Chiota.

On the issue of environment, Mr Chiota said the company was aiming at reinforcing its commitment towards environmental stewardship. With this year’s theme having emphasis on ecosystem restoration, ecosystems are, however, disturbed by human interface activities like clearance of land for mining, farming and construction hence

“As an expression of our commitment to environmental stewardship, as How Mine, we continue to participate in the National Tree Planting Day programmes.

“Today we have various indigenous trees to be planted as part of How Mine’s contribution towards reforestation efforts,” he said.
