Letters to the Editor: Incidents of theft worrying

The Sunday News

Eddious Masundire Shumba

It is very sad to see that as a result of the harsh economic environment most people are no longer honest to an extent that they even steal from their reliable and unsuspecting clients.

I have a lot of my fellow Zimbabweans who come to me crying after losing their valuable goods to people they trusted so much, I strongly urge supermarket customers to make sure that they always check their goods every time before leaving the parcel counters because supermarket workers have of late been accused of stealing from their clients’ paper bags.

One woman from Luveve complained that she left her groceries at the parcel counter of a very big supermarket but when she opened her big South African bag popularly known as Tshangani bag she discovered that some of her items such as 500g bath soaps were missing and started to shout on top of her voice and in the process attracting a big crowd of people who have already gathered outside the supermarket to watch the drama.

People complained that it was not only that woman who had lost her items to those greedy merciless parcel counter attendants but many residents lost their goods but did not know where to report their cases.

Some residents also complained that when they take their vehicles such as cars and buses to some garages for repairs and other services they always discover that some of their car parts are stolen or removed and replaced by fake parts.

Fuel in most cases is drained and this is very bad since we all know that the cost of buying these items is beyond our reach.

Although I agree that the situation in our country at the moment is not good but as Zimbabweans we must try by all means to be honest with each other and assist one another for our nation to move forward.

We always complain about poor salaries for supermarket employees but that should not be their passport to temper with goods left under their care.

I hope people out there will be alert and make sure they protect their property from thieves.
