A 35-YEAR-OLD man from Sizinda flats in Bulawayo was killed over a plate of isitshwala worth US$1 after it was alleged he had not paid for the plate on Christmas Eve.

The deceased, Musateta Rutayi, went with his friend to buy isitshwala at a certain house in the suburb, which operates an illegal backyard restaurant.

According to the police, as the two were eating, the woman who served them came and demanded payment of which the now deceased explained that he had already paid. The woman went on to snatch the plates ordering the two to leave the premises. The deceased and his friend refused which led to the woman calling her employer Kundai Moyo (24) informing him about the issue.

After a few minutes Moyo arrived and confronted the two who were already walking out of the house and allegedly hit the now deceased on the face with an open hand. He then drew a knife from his pocket and stabbed the now deceased several times in the stomach.

The now deceased was taken to hospital by his friends and bystanders but he died upon arrival. A report was made and the accused is on the run. Bulawayo Provincial Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

“Members of the public are warned against violence and to always find better ways of resolving misunderstandings,” said Insp Ncube.
