Masvingo Mayor Christmas Cheerfund launched

MORE than $120 000 has been pledged towards the Masvingo Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund meant to help under-privileged groups in the city during the festive season.

The money which was pledged by various companies and individuals when the Fund was launched last week is also meant to help less privileged including the old people’s homes such as the Alpha Cottages.

During the launch about $121 600 ,US$435 and two bales of clothing were pledged towards the fund.

Masvingo Mayor Councillor Collen Maboke in an interview, after the launch, said he was grateful with the support he got from the communities and the business community by turning up to the programme of such good will.

“I am grateful with the support that we got from individuals, our residents and the business community by responding to this programme of the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund.

“We are very happy with pledges and the payments that were done in cash and in kind. We are looking forward that by the end of this festive season we would have enough to give to the less privileged.

“This year we have targeted all homes with the less privileged that we be able to assist them such as the Alpha Cottages, the old people’s home ,Capota school for the blind and other groups that need assistance,” he said
Clr Maboke said council will also host a golf tournament today for more donations towards the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund.

The fund is targeting to raise more than $1 million.
