FOR seven consecutive years, Lovemore Munyamana dominated on the bodybuilding stage as he won the coveted Mr Bulawayo title from 2012 up to 2018 when the show was last held.

Challenger after challenger tried to wrestle the title away from him without success. Now Munyamana wants to translate his success on the stage to the ballot box as he is seeking election as councillor for Ward 9 on a Zanu-PF ticket when the country holds by-elections on Saturday.

Munyamana, a resident of Mpopoma is one of the six candidates, with one of them being former councillor Donald Mabutho.

Ward 9 covers Mpopoma and Matshobana suburbs.

The 36-year-old Munyamana is already known in Mpopoma where he has resided since the year 2000 and runs an electrical fixing business at Thikili Shopping Centre.

“People already know me, I live with the people and run a shop at Thikili Shopping Centre. My campaign has gone well so far, people are promising that they will vote for me. I work with the people, I used to assist the elderly and the disabled before I got into politics. I have been assisting cleaning bins by the shops,’’ Munyamana said.

If voted into office, Munyamana’s priorities are reviving Nketa Park in Mpopoma as well as other problems affecting residents in his ward.

“Nketa Park in Mpopoma, if given an opportunity I want to fix that. There are no street lights. I also want to address the issue of rates, poor state of roads and sewer problems. I cannot promise that I will fix all that in these few months that I will be in office but will try my best,’’ he said.

On his bodybuilding career, Munyamana said he has not officially retired but has taken a break from training as campaigning was taking most of his time for now.
