THE Zimbabwe Republic Police in Matabeleland North yesterday opened two new bases in Victoria Falls as the organisation declared zero tolerance to serious crimes such as poaching that are prevalent in the province.

This comes against a background of high crime rate in the province where 9 499 cases were recorded in 2016, three cases down from the 9 502 recorded the previous year. Officiating at the re-launch of ZRP Client Service Charter, officer commanding Matabeleland North Province Senior Assistant Commissioner Jonathan Chituku said effective policing only flourishes where there is goodwill and cooperation with the community.

“Zimbabweans deserve the best police service hence our vision to be the leading police service provider in the world by 2020.

The fight against crime calls for maximum support from all citizens. We are humbled by the efforts made by the business community and want to extend gratitude to the municipality for availing land,” said Snr Ass Comm Chikutu.

The Victoria Falls Business Against Crime Forum of Zimbabwe (BACFOZ) donated the buildings at Victoria Falls Border Post and Mkhosana suburb while construction work is underway on a third station at Ezengeni in Chinotimba.
