A LOBENGULA family has reportedly gone into hiding after a notorious robber who was once married to the wife and they have a child, was released from prison and started terrorising them accusing the ex-wife of trying to take away his child.
The gangsta-cum-armed robbery, Mgcini Gumbo had been languishing in jail over a number of crimes when his then wife, Needmore Ncube served him with divorce papers.
The two had one daughter from the estranged marriage- Sibusiso Lachel Gumbo.
According to family sources, after the divorce Ncube had moved on with Sipho Sibanda and they were staying as a happy family for a couple of years until Mgcini was released from prison.
“Mgcini’s imprisonment was a blessing in disguise as she was living in fear because of his gangstarism which is why when he was jailed she started instituting divorce proceedings mainly to also protect their daughter, he was served his divorce papers while in prison.
“After he was released he targeted the family, telling Ncube that he did not recognise the divorce and said he wanted his daughter and wife,” said the family source.
It is reported that at the height of Mgcini’s terror on the family, he, together with his gang went on to abduct the trio with the intention to further intimidate them.
“Ncube and her daughter were abducted separately and we are told they were taken to some house in Queens Park. Sibanda was also separately abducted where they were beaten and tortured with Sibanda being accused of sleeping with Mgcini’s family.
“They however managed to escape but life was not the same they confided to some of us that they no longer felt safe. Just after the said abductions their Lobengula house was attacked and set ablaze, we are not even sure whether they were inside or not. The police just informed us that they had engaged forensic experts to investigate the inferno,” said the relative who declined to be named fearing victimisation.
The family members said the police had been reluctant to assist as Mgcini was a feared gangsta.
“As is just talking to you right now we are not sure what will happen to us because this Mgcini criminal is really connected and dangerous, working with corrupt police,” said the source.
