PEOPLE’s Own Savings Bank (POSB) on Tuesday donated 160 000 pairs of sheets and an assortment of drugs to Mpilo Central Hospital as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Mpilo Central Hospital CEO Mr Leonard Mabhande said the hospital was grateful for the donation as it came during a season where they receive many patients.

“On behalf of Mpilo Central Hospital, I would like to thank POSB for thinking about us in this time of need. They have timely done this during this season of giving and we pray that as you continue to help the disadvantaged, God may continue to bless you.

“During this season we have an influx of patients which means these sheets will go a long way in helping us improve our quality of care during this busy season. Unfortunately the reason why we tend to be busy is because people get involved in accidents, some get drunk and fight, especially during the Christmas holidays where this place becomes a hive of activity,” he said.

POSB CEO Mr Admore Kandlela said among the CSR philanthropic focus of the bank, health is a key aspect which they are involved in. He said they were implementing the project as proud citizens and in response to the ever growing call for corporate world movement in the provision of essential services to communities.

“As one of the oldest financial institutions in this country, we are 112 years old. Our bank is constantly seeking ways in which we can contribute to the needs of our clients who are scattered across the lengthened breadth of this country and have exhibited loyalty to the branch over so many years,” he said.

He said POSB was aware of the fact that the Government was overwhelmed by financial obligations, hence the need to complement its efforts in providing support to health institutions. Similar bed sheets were distributed simultaneously to 12 provincial hospitals across Zimbabwe under the “Lend a Hand” programme. POSB staff volunteers contributed and collected donations both in cash and kind in order to assist the needy.

According to Mr Kandlela an assortment of clothing items and food were mobilised by these volunteers during the exercise. They also handed over exercise books, food stuffs and clothing Ekuphumuleni Old Peoples’ Home and Thembiso Children’s Home.
