PREMIER Service Medical Aid Society has launched a new package for its holders to help them attain specialised care pertaining to health care checks and screening which detects anomalies that may exist within one’s body.

Premier Lifestyle is a free programme and a product of PSMAS which is an added benefit to all PSMAS members who are under the PSMAS Medical Aid that focuses on wellness, more specifically the preventative health that include medical screening and free education to all PSMAS holders.

In an interview with Sunday News, the Public Relations Manager of the organisation, Mr Arthur Choga, said often times people live unknowingly with non-communicable diseases (NCD) and  this programme aims at preventing and maintaining non-communicable diseases.

“Most times we may live with diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic cancer without knowing hence this programme is there to provide medical screening which involves health risk assessment, blood pressure, body mass index test (BMI), waist to hip check,  metabolic age according to one’s BMI and body fat.

“It comes with free education on lifestyle modification, nutrition, exercise and hard copy and electronic report of tests,” said Mr Choga.

He added that people have typical sedentary lifestyles where they spend most of their time sitting and driving around to get everything that they need unlike back in the days where people used to walk around.

“Nowadays with this technology around us everything is provided for us in our phones making it vital to look out for our diet and nutrition. We have a nutritionist, fitness trainers and weight loss trainers to assist our clients.

“Feeds from the screening help determine what kind of assistance one needs, for example if your BMI is high and maybe your rating is overweight or obese we refer you to our nutritionist who will help you modify your diet and also give recommendations and get your weight loss trainers who put you on an exercise programme.

“We live in tough times and stressful environments where people have so much on their shoulders eventually causing strokes, heart attacks or sudden collapsing hence we go an extra mile to help maintain or prevent further damage.

“In addition, there is now a high rise in the number of back surgeries as many people suffer from back pains. Thus our back and neck programme mainly targets office workers that spend more than 70 percent of their time sitting in bad postures depending on the chairs and desks.

“To help we visit our member companies to do office assessments and an office adjustment hoping to catch and manage the problem before it disables people,” he added.
