A SOUTH Africa-based Zimbabwean businessman has donated fencing material and stationery to Nketa 9 police sub-station in Bulawayo.

Speaking after the donation last week, Mr Timothy Mncube, the proprietor of one of the leading South African construction firms, ALW Team Investments (Private) Limited said the donation was part of his efforts of giving back to the community where he grew up in. The South Africa-based businessman handed over fencing material including a gate and bond paper.

“This donation is part of giving back to the community from which I grew up and lived in and it is solely to recognise the importance of police in our communities. Police are there to ensure we live in a tranquil environment through ensuring our safety and security at all times, therefore the environment from which they operate from should also be enabling,” said Mr Mncube.

Nketa 9 police sub-station situated behind the suburb’s shopping centre was constructed two years ago and was still to have a perimeter fence erected around it. The station is also operating without electricity and telephone connections.

“I am also going to make sure that electricity and telephone facilities are connected to this sub-station and apart from that I have already ordered 10 bicycles, which would be used by officers while on duty,” said Mr Mncube.

He said his company has over the years carried out a number of Corporate Social Responsibility programmes in South Africa and intends to do the same in the country.

The South Africa-based business mogul has been operating in the neighbouring country for the past 28 years and is one of the many diasporans that took heed of President Emmerson Mnangagwa to play a role in the turning around of the country’s economy by investing back home.
