THE headmaster of Libeni Primary School in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North is under investigation for allegedly diverting 15 bags of grain that the school received from Government under the supplementary feeding programme to his own use, among other malpractices he is accused of.

The headmaster, Mr Maluleka Maseko is also accused of forging signatures of other signatories to access school funds at a local bank and abusing the Campaign for Female Education (Camfed) facility that benefits under-privileged children.

Matabeleland North Provincial Education Director, Mr Jabulani Mpofu confirmed there were some issues at the school pointing out that his office was seized with the matter.

“I am aware of the issue and I have sent the District Schools Inspector who already knew the case to go and investigate and I have not heard of the results,” said Mr Mpofu.

Parents of pupils learning at the school visited Sunday News last week where they called for a thorough investigation into the matter as they were not happy with the way the institution was being run.

“The headmaster, Mr Maseko has been faking signatures in order to withdraw school funds from the bank and he has been using this money for his personal gain,” said one of the parents who requested anonymity.

Another parent alleged that grain that was delivered to the school disappeared from the school’s storeroom without an explanation.

“About 15 bags of maize from the Presidential Feeding Scheme disappeared from the school storeroom without any signs of a break-in meaning that someone with access to the room took it and that person is the head.

“We cannot condone such behaviour, so he should be investigated and if found to be on the wrong side, removed from the school or even arrested.”

Contacted for comment, Mr Maseko refuted the allegations, saying such talk was being spread by people intending to destroy his reputation.

“I know nothing of what they are saying but I am under investigation at the moment, but what I can say is that there are members of staff who do not like me and I am sure they are the ones behind all this,” he said.
