Fast food outlet, Steak and Chips has embarked on an expansion drive with the newly opened company targeting to open more branches across the country.
The fast foods outlet which started off in Gweru with two branches in the Midlands capital and a bakery, recently opened a new branch in the mining town of Kwekwe. In an interview on the sidelines of the official opening of the Kwekwe branch yesterday, Steak and Chips Operations Director, Mr Tawedzerwa Mudzvoka said the company was aiming to spread it wings across the country.
“We started off in Gweru and now we have opened another branch in Kwekwe. We are aiming to open more branches in Zvishavane, Shurugwi and Mberengwa. We want to consolidate Midlands first before we then open branches in Bulawayo and Harare, among other areas,” said Mr Mudzvoka.
As it expands, the company has also set its eyes on employing more people. Currently the company employs 120 people. Kwekwe branch employs 40 people.
“By the end of the year we want to be employing more than 150 people in all our branches. As youths we also want to play our role in employment creation and economic growth and that is the way we can do it through expansion,” he said.
On economic growth, Mr Mudzvoka said gone are the days when people used to rely on big companies.
“Those were the days when people used to rely on big companies like Ziscosteel. As youths, we have to play our role and be entrepreneurs and create employment for other youths. So, this expansion drive is meant to create more employment opportunities for others,” said Mudzvota.
The company is one year old but has managed to bring variety to the fast-food industry. While most fast-food outlets concentrate on chips and chicken, Steak n Chips introduced beef steak and chips, bringing variety to the industry. Mr Mudzvota said competition brought quality to the industry. —Advertorial
