STINGRAYS Swimming Academy clinched the 2019 Matabeleland Swimming Championships raking in 1 397 points as they dominated the Bulawayo event last weekend.
The swimming academy’s boys section proved too strong for the field as they notched 972 points, securing first place in that category while in the girls’ section, they had 369 points finishing on fourth spot. Barracudas won the girls’ section with 608 points and came in overall second with 1 018 points.
Crusaders was third on the combined teams scores table with 691 points, Penguins came in fourth having amassed 670 points while The Falcons attained fifth place with 647 points. School of Swimming came in sixth with 280 points while Kubu was on seventh place (113), Crocs were second from last (20) and Zambesi Tigers anchored the table with 13 points.
The championships saw Stingray’s Tichatonga Makaya (13) make a new record in the 50m butterfly touching the pad in 28,37 seconds while clubmates, Khaya Vimba (12) and Nathan Chibva (10) broke Matabeleland records in the 12-year-olds and 10-year-olds 50m breaststroke events respectively.
