A 35-year-old woman from Mberengwa who could not stomach sharing her husband with another woman allegedly went berserk and brutally killed her rival suitor by stabbing her several times on the neck and ripping her stomach open.

Sunungurayi Chinyoka of Village Three Radway under Chief Bvute in Mberengwa was on Friday arraigned before Mberengwa magistrate Mr Tavengwa Sangster facing a charge of murder.

Chinyoka was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 4 August, 2016. She was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

For the State, Ms Wadzanai Shayanowako said on 29 June this year, Chinyoka brutally killed her husband’s girlfriend Sibonile Dube (35) who she accused of snatching her husband Matthias Zhou after the two had a child together.

Shayanowako said on the fateful day at around 10am, Dube was on her way to Vanguard Primary School in Mberengwa for a parents consultative meeting when she met Chinyoka who was on her way to fetch some water.

The court heard that Chinyoka confronted Dube accusing her of snatching her husband and when the latter tried to explain herself, Chinyoka allegedly drew a kitchen knife from her pocket and stabbed her several times in the abdomen, neck and chest inflicting deep cuts and ripping her stomach open.

The court was told that Dube fell to the ground after the attack crying out for help while bleeding profusely but an angry Chinyoka stabbed her again on the thigh sinking the knife leaving it protruding and fled the scene.

Villagers who had heard Dube crying out for help rushed to the scene and assisted her as well as notifying her relatives.

Dube’s father Clever Dube also rushed to the scene and took her daughter to Mberengwa District Hospital where she was further referred to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH).

The State further told the court that Dube later died in Bulawayo due to the injuries sustained as a result of the assault.

Clever reported the matter to the police leading to Chinyoka’s arrest at Mt Belingwe Shopping Centre after fleeing her homestead to evade arrest.
