AN 18-YEAR-OLD A-level pupil from Induna High School, in Imbizo Barracks on the outskirts of Bulawayo, with a desire to become a renowned film script writer, has taken steps in living up to his fantasy, as he recently released a comedy drama film.

The movie — Forces Against my Life — was written by the 18-year-old Silas Mukodoka and was produced by an up and coming film production agency — Marzah Productions, also from Imbizo.

In an interview with Sunday Leisure, Mukodoka said he was fond of writing scripts and being involved in arts events.
“The movie comprises about 18 characters and most of them are from Induna High School and Sigola. Half of the cast are students and the movie was shot in Sigola area. It took me about three months to pen and shoot the movie, with the aide of Marzah Productions. The movie is quite exciting and is in vernacular,” he said.

He noted that the movie was basically a fusion of comedy, horror and drama, as it portrayed the lives of many youths.

“I was inspired by the basic day-to-day experiences that many youths go through. I added both tradition and present-day issues to make it appealing to all. This is my first film and I hope to produce a second one, which would be a sequel to this one,” said Mukodoka.

Up and coming film producer Tendai Mzondi from Marzah Productions, said he was intrigued and delighted to have worked with a talented young man with the zeal to be recognised and make a change in the showbiz industry.

“We are trying to penetrate the local showbiz industry. We are yet to acquire state-of-the-art equipment so that we live up to our expectations. As soon as we raise enough funds to acquire the equipment we will register with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe so that we are duly recognised as a professional company.

“On the part of the movie, we had an exciting time as we got the chance to mix and mingle with villagers from the area and some of the scenes were shot during the day and in the morning,” he said.

The movie talks about the struggles of a boy who is caught up in a spell binding predicament after his mother dies. He is left with no option but to find a job and fend for himself. However, his endeavour meets several challenges, after he is bewitched and monitored by a local witch doctor who wishes nothing good for him.
