A total of 52 apostolic sects turned up for a meeting to endorse the candidature of President Mnangagwa at Madzibaba Emmanuel Mutumwa Johane Masowe weChishanu shrine in Bulawayo’s Selbourne Park suburb yesterday.

The meeting was graced by Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration, Dr Obert Mpofu who was the guest of honour. Speaking at the event, Dr Mpofu said he was impressed with the turnout and commended church leaders for their unwavering support for Zanu-PF and President Mnangagwa. Dr Mpofu said he was also impressed with the sects for being unashamed in their support.

ZANU PF

“I am impressed with vapostori who don’t waver and are unashamed of their support for Zanu-PF and President Mnangagwa. There are people in the party who drive around in party vehicles but don’t have the same enthusiasm that has been shown by you today. If everyone here was to vote for Zanu-PF tomorrow, we would take back all the Bulawayo Province seats in a heartbeat,” he said to loud cheers from the congregants.

Dr Mpofu also promised the congregants that all their concerns would be taken up to President Mnangagwa and will be dealt with accordingly. Among the concerns the church leaders raised were the constant threats of removal from their shrines, including the venue of yesterday’s meeting.

“We will not allow anyone to be moved from their places of worship. The party and its President are people-centred and you are the people. We will never allow anyone to disrupt your worship. I promise you that. I ask that your leaders put everything in writing so that I can alert the President about your needs,” he said.

Meeting under the theme; “Nyika inonamatirwa ne vene vayo/ Ilizwe lithandazelwa ngabaninilo”, various church leaders stood up one after the other to give their backing to President Mnangagwa’s 2023 election bid. The event’s host, Bishop Emmanuel Mutumwa said the idea behind the meeting was to provide empirical evidence of their support for President Mnangagwa and the campaign for the 2023 harmonised elections.

Bishop Mutumwa said President Mnangagwa must win the upcoming elections as he represented the interest of all Zimbabweans. Also present at the meeting were Zanu-PF Central Committee member, Cde Charles Chiponda, Bulawayo Province Women’s League chairperson, Cde Rejoice Sibanda, District Co-ordinating Committee chairman, Cde Mnothisi Nsingo and Zanu-PF Bulawayo Province (Greens District/City Centre) chairman and Affirmative Action Group (AAG) provincial chairperson, Cde Tendai Charuka.
