A SENIOR army officer in Masvingo has appealed to companies to assist in developing and maintaining infrastructure belonging to the organisation as this will go a long way in improving the welfare of officers.
Speaking during the official handover of a tree seedlings nursery under a green house to 4.2 Infantry Brigade in Gutu by Nyaradzo Life Assurance Company last week, 4 Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Exsebious Tshuma said the corporate world must extend its helping hand to developing infrastructure for the army.
The nursery became the third in Masvingo province to be donated by the company. Other nurseries in the province are at Gwindigwi High School in Bikita and at Muzogwi Primary School in Chivi.
“Let me assure you that the green house that you have erected and donated to 4.2 Infantry Battalion will be put to good use.
“Allow me to appeal for your helping hand towards the brigade’s mortuary at 4.1 Combat Group, as well as the military ward at Masvingo General Hospital. Any form of assistance on those two areas is most welcome,” said Brig Gen Tshuma.
He also thanked the company for drilling a borehole at 4.3 Reserve Battalion.
“The monetary value you have ploughed back into this Brigade is a true testimony of your continued corporate social responsibility. I humbly request you not to get tired in doing good,” he said
Brig Gen Tshuma also said the nursery project will go a long way in improving the nutritional value to officers as well as help in income generation. He said even the local community was set to benefit.
Nyaradzo Life Assurance Company executive director Mr Webster Chikengezha said the company’s partnership with 4.2 Infantry Battalion was motivated by the desire to make a difference in the community.
“As an institution, we felt obliged to partner with 4.2 Infantry Battalion in creating the nursery. We have no doubt that this gesture will make a difference first to this community and the country at large,” he said.
