MORE than 1 000 rural school pupils from Mapiravana and Chizhou secondary schools in Chirumhanzu last week benefited from a career guidance and Information and Communication Technology initiative organised by young professionals in the field of science and technology from Bulawayo dubbed Community Builders Initiative.

The young professionals some of them operating from different parts of the country converged on the schools where they offered career guidance, inspirational talk with more inclination towards science and technology.

According to one of the professionals involved, Mr Louis Chihata, a radiographer in Bulawayo, the programme involved career guidance and motivational talk to inspire and assist in shaping the future of young children in the area.

“It is our obligation to give back to the society that nurtured us.

“We are what we are because someone’s hand was involved in our career crafting. Voluntarily giving back will develop our native societies to be better places that we wish them to be.

“The advancement of technologies have seen the world becoming a global village which has, however, led to an enclave development.

“This has led to the widening of the gap between rural and urban pupils in modern day career choices,” he said.

Mr Chihata said the initiative was open to all who feel they can play a part in impacting the society positively.

“The girl child is also set to benefit following heartfelt extension of necessities by Ms Tarisai Muvuti. Young girls are usually disadvantaged compared to their male counterparts thus the injection of sanitary wear support, among other things by Ms Muvuti who is our colleague,” he said.

“Technology is bringing people closer together and it is high time we exploit it to impact our societies.

“We should ride on the opportunities provided by the Internet and social media to access the needs of our societies and mobilise positive action to impact the young generation.

“Let’s explore the possibilities provided by the technology leap,” said Mr Jorum Chikwadze, the leader of the Engineers, Academics and Researchers Network who was part of the young professionals.
