ZIMBABWE-born former Springboks, Tonderai Chavhanga as well as Adrian Garvey will be the most esteemed guests at a function to launch the 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign for the Zimbabwe Sables in Harare on Tuesday.

Chavhanga, a winger during his playing days made four appearances for his adopted country. He is most remembered for scoring six tries for South Africa on debut against Uruguay in June 2005, a match the Springboks won 134-3.

The Bulawayo born Garvey, a tight head prop in his playing days represented Zimbabwe from 1990 to 1993 and was part of the Zimbabwean team at the 1991 Rugby World Cup in Wales before he switched allegiance to turn out for South Africa from 1996 to 1999. He appeared for South Africa at the 1999 Rugby World Cup whose matches were played in Wales, England, France, Scotland and Ireland.

Zimbabwe appeared at the first two Rugby World Cups in 1987 and 1991 but the Sables have found the going tough in their quest to make it to the global showpiece in subsequent editions.

Under the tutelage of former national team captain Brendan Dawson, the Sables are going all out to make sure they are among the best in the world at the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.

Besides Chavhanga and Garvey, some of the top company executives in Zimbabwe will be present at the function so as to try have their buy in to supporting the country’s flagship national rugby team.

Sables team manager, Jason Maritz said they will be launching the auction page with a few items to go under the hammer on the night. – @Mdawini_29.
