He gives strength to the weary

The Sunday News

Greetings beloved nation in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Isaiah 40:29 NIV, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” The word of God is full of many promises of God and in the book of Isaiah 40:29 we find one such promise where the Bible tells us that those who are weary shall be given strength.

The Bible also goes on to tell us that those who grow weak, they shall be increased in power. When we look at the definition of the word “weary” it says, “tiring until one is unable to endure more of the same thing”, “exhausted in strength, endurance, vigour or freshness.”

This is a state that many people including believers are finding themselves in of late. There are many challenges and circumstances that are causing us to become weary and exhausted to a point where we feel we cannot continue. In the world at large and in our own nation we have witnessed the worst suffering in this era where many people, including God-fearing believers, have fallen sick from Covid-19.

Exhausted

We have seen many people losing and burying a husband, a wife, a mother, a father, children and friends and relatives within days of each other. The fact that people can no longer come together and comfort each other as it was done in the past is putting an even greater strain on people. Some people are finding themselves battling illness alone in isolation without their loved ones taking care of them. Such is the situation that we are going through as a nation and the world at large.

Let us not forget to mention the dedicated people who are working in the frontline and having to spend long hours taking care of sick people and other related tasks. Such is the situation that many are at a point of being exhausted in strength because of the long hours at work they are putting in, some are feeling tired to a point of being unable to endure the long hours of illness, isolation or quarantine.

Some are finding their faith in God fading because they are seeing no end in sight of this pandemic and as threats of more deadly waves of the pandemic are being predicted. All of this is enough to cause us to be weary and weak not only in our faith and in our spiritual walk, but physically, emotionally and mentally as well.

If you are one of those people who have found themselves in a situation where you feel you can no longer continue and you want to give up, I would like to encourage you that God promises to give strength to the weary and to increase the power of the weak.

We don’t have to rely on our own strength because God carries us through His strength. In life when we try to do everything with our own strength alone it does not turn out well. When you are heavy-laden it is like your spirit, mind, will, and emotions can’t function because there is this weight on you that you try to lift by yourself.

The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 12:8-9 NLT, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” God’s strength is made perfect in weakness because He delights in taking situations where human strength is lacking in order to demonstrate the greatness of His power.

The Bible tells us in Matthew 11:28 that, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” The Bible says, “come to me”, that is an invitation from our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and it is up to us whether we accept the invitation or not.

The invitation is to put down the burdens we are carrying at his feet. There is a promise of divine rest in the lord, “and I will give you rest”. The Bible also assures us in Isaiah 35: 4 that He will,

“Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.” The Bible reminds us many times of the presence of God, His love and care for us and His faithfulness. In Isaiah 40:11 we are told of a shepherd who, “ . . . tends His flock like a shepherd. He gathers the lambs and carries them close to His heart”.

That is what God does, He carries us through His own strength, and we don’t have to rely on our own strength. On our own we become overwhelmed and weary because of the challenges we find ourselves in, but with God He picks us up and leads us through life’s hills and valleys.

That is the loving heavenly father we have who assures us in Isaiah 40:31 that, “But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

It is my prayer that you may find strength in the Lord, may He carry you in his loving arms through His own strength and that may you find rest in the Lord. I would like to invite you to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, by believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that he is your Lord and Saviour, and you shall be saved. May God bless you all and this beautiful nation of Zimbabwe. Amen.
