Landlord’s son steals from tenant

A MAN from Entumbane, Bulawayo has been arrested for unlawful entry and theft of property amounting to R9 140.

Nkosiphile Sithole (30)  appeared before Western Commonage residential magistrate Mr Shepherd Mjanja.

Prosecuting, Ms Melisa Dube told the court that sometime in January 2019 on a date unknown Samukeliso Dube (38) departed to South Africa leaving her property secured inside her room where she was renting. The room was locked with a padlock and all windows were left closed.

It is alleged that Sithole, being the son of the landlord took advantage of Dube’s absence and broke the padlock with an unknown object to gain entry. He stole various property which included; blankets, pots, dinner plates, coffee mugs, juice and wine glasses, Tupperware set, iron, speaker, kettle, duvet inner, pick nick set, set of duvet cover, ID and birth certificate, various pair of shoes, sheets, kids clothing and adult clothes.

When Dube returned from South Africa on 11 May 2022, she realised that her bedroom door had been damaged and some of her property missing. All the property stolen amounted to R9 140 and nothing was recovered.

Sithole was found guilty and order to restitute the full value of the stolen property before 28 June 2022 or face three months imprisonment.
