MWENEZI Rural District Council is set to construct five classroom blocks at five schools and rehabilitate 30 kilometres of its road network using part of Devolutions Funds received this year.

The local authority has so far received $32 million out of its allocated $208 million for this year and has already bought building materials for the construction of classroom blocks at Rushangarumwe Primary, Valley Primary, Nyangambe Primary, Bubi Primary and Mufuna Secondary schools.

Part of the $32 million has also been used for the 30km road rehabilitation and gravelling while an additional 10km was done under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme. Chief executive officer Mr Albert Chivanga said that they were now preparing for the construction of the classrooms to start.

“We have received $32 million devolution funds and we have done road formation and gravelling. We are intending to construct five classroom blocks and we have bought the materials for the schools. We are only the real construction works. The material is readily available for the construction works at Rushangarumwe Primary, Valley Primary, Mufuna Secondary, Nyangambe Primary and Bubi Primary schools. For this year we had been allocated $208 million,” he said.

Meanwhile, under the ERRP, he said that they have exhausted $5 million.

“Under the ERRP we have so far done 26km of the Chikombedzi Road. We did the construction of drifts, we did about 52km verge clearing, grading of the same road and we have constructed culverts. So far we have exhausted $5 million,” he said.
