Mystery of spoken words

The Sunday News

Greetings beloved nation. Many believers have not understood the power and mystery of spoken words and just speak carelessly without realising the impact that their words have on their lives and on the lives of other people around them. Spoken words are a mystery that many believers have not fully understood because words have power. They can destroy and create.

Words have the power and ability to help, heal, hinder, hurt, harm, humiliate, and humble. Unfortunately, there are many believers who are unaware of the kind of spiritual consequences to words that come out of their mouths. A few weeks back I spoke about dimensions of priesthood and kingship that God has given us as believers to rule here on earth.

The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 8:4 that, “Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, what doest thou?” So meaning as kings one of the keys of exercising our dominion and rulership here on earth is through the spoken word. The Bible tells us in Genesis 1:26 that God gave mankind dominion and rulership over all creation. Words are important if they are to live lives of dominion and rulership because of the supernatural power that they have.

One thing that we need to understand as believers is that this world we live in is the domain of spiritual forces both for good or evil, and these forces react to our words. The demonic spiritual powers in heavenly places equally respond to our words. People of the world have understood the power of spoken words and are able to speak demonic programmings into people’s lives without you knowing.

That is why you will hear of people waking at midnight, standing in certain strategic places chanting and making all sorts of proclamations. The words they will be uttering will be programming the realm of the spirit and the atmosphere.

Those words that they speak into the realm of the spirit find expression in people’s lives, in that community et cetera. That is why you will find many people struggling in life, both believers and non-believers, because of words that have been programmed into the realm of the spirit.

One thing I should also point out is that it’s not just witches and wizards who speak negatively, we too as parents, as believers, as teachers et cetera speak a lot of negative things concerning ourselves, our children, our students, our nation, our leaders, not realising the power that those words have. Some parents will say hurtful things and call their children horrible names, like “you are dull, you are useless, and you will never amount to anything” and you will find that child becoming exactly that which was spoken.

That’s the power of spoken words. Hebrews 11:3 tells us that, “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”

God in his infinite wisdom and power could have easily created the world through other means, but he chose to use the spoken word, “let there be” and there was. Over and over in Genesis 1, we see the words, “And God said” and whatever God said became a reality. And everything that God spoke into existence has stood since that time. He spoke it once and never had to repeat those words again.

That is a mystery of spoken words. So meaning God showed us this template by using words to create the earth. The Bible provides patterns for us to follow. One such example of a man who understood the power of the spoken word was Elijah in the book of 1 Kings 17:1, “And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, ‘As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.” Elijah spoke a word and declared that there be no rain for three-and-a-half years, and it was so.

We also read in the gospels how Jesus ministered by speaking words. Jesus spoke to diseases. He spoke to demons afflicting many people. He spoke to the fig tree and it responded; he spoke to the wind and it responded. Jesus by speaking took direct authority over the condition or situation. The fact that these things responded to the spoken word means they have ears and can hear and respond.

Demons have ears, sickness has ears, creation has ears, and the wind has ears. So meaning as long as they have ears they can hear and respond to your speaking. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11:1 that, “Imitate me as I imitate Christ.” This means we should pray and speak like Jesus.

The Bible tells us in Isaiah 55:10-11 that “As the rain and the snow come down from Heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

Every word that comes from God’s mouth has power and authority. In the same way, when we make a declaration or a confession, it is an expression of our faith. His word will not return to Him empty, but will accomplish everything He wants it to and will achieve the purpose for which He sent it. So meaning when you make a confession, it becomes a decree.

As you confess it, you are activating the spiritual realm. In the same way, if someone speaks a negative word, that word activates the demonic spiritual realm. This allows the demonic powers to follow you, so that everything you are saying comes to pass.

On the other hand, if you declare the promises of God, you activate the angelic realm that will come to your aide so that you can reach everything you desire in your heart.

As kings we have to be very careful of the things that we say about ourselves, about other people, about our situations and about our nation because the Bible clearly tells us that, “where the word of a king is, there is power”.

So whatever negative thing you proclaim, it shall be so, and whatever positive thing you proclaim, it shall be so.
Remember the things we say are being uttered into the realm of the spirit and they have a creative power.

I would like to invite you to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, by believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that He is your Lord and Saviour, and you shall be saved. May God bless you all. Amen.
