THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League is pushing for a lengthy ban on the alleged soccer hooligan, Nkosiyabo Ngwenya.
PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele yesterday said they were ready to approach the courts to apply for an order prohibiting Ngwenya from entering any football stadium in the country as soon as he is convicted.

Ngwenya was captured by fellow fans while aiming his catapult at Caps United fans and players during a Bob91 semi-final clash between Highlanders and Makepekeke at Barbourfields Stadium last month. Bulawayo Police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo said Ngwenya, who handed himself over to the police after his picture was splashed in newspapers is due to appear in court on Tuesday to answer to charges of public violence.

The 31-year-old Esiphezini residing Ngwenya who is employed as a security guard in Bulawayo surrendered himself to the law enforcements agents after police had appealed to members of the public to help with his arrest.

Insp Moyo has, however, clarified that Ngwenya is not connected to a murder case which occurred in Makokoba.
“Nkosiyabo Ngwenya is appearing in court on Tuesday where he is being charged with public violence. He handed himself over to the police after realising that the net was closing in on him. He is, however, not connected to the murder case which happened in Makokoba and does not reside at Ross Camp,’’ said Insp Moyo.

Ndebele commended the police for arresting Ngwenya and pointed out that the PSL will seek to have him banned from entering their hired stadia for a certain period of time.

“Once that person is prosecuted, we want him banned from entering our stadiums because we reserve the right since we hire those facilities for football matches. As a league we are happy with the way the ZRP have conducted their investigations and the way the media has assisted. We want perpetrators of hooliganism in football to appear in court and then we can ban such individuals once they are convicted,’’ said Ndebele.

In other countries like England, convicted soccer hooligans have been barred for life from ever setting foot on football stadiums.
