TWO Pumula South women who were reportedly caught red handed while being intimate was allegedly brutally attacked by the community, that claimed that they wanted to remove the ‘evil spirit’ within them.
Noxolo Olga Ncube and her partner, Linda Mnguni were caught while being intimate in the latter’s bedroom by a relative who immediately raised a red flag, alerting the community on the ‘taboo’ act.
Linda’s parents are said to be active members of the Citizens Coalition for Change.
According to residents that witnessed the drama unfold, it emerged that the two ladies had been in relationship for some time, which they were disguising as being just friendship.
“For Noxolo, as residents we had been suspecting for some time as being lesbian so when Linda’s relative caught them on that day it came as no surprise. The two were brutally beaten in public, with the community saying they were ridding the suburb of evil spirits.
“It was quite humiliating for the two but residents insisted that what they were doing was taboo and hence were out to cleanse a notable ill,” said the neighbour who declined to be named.
A relative to Noxolo revealed that the couple later claimed that during the attack they were gang raped by a group of four men.
“It is sad that when they went to the police their issue was just dismissed as it was said they could not prove their story. For Noxolo it becomes worse because some of our relatives truly believe that she has been engrossed by an evil spirit and have also suggested that she be taken to a traditional healer.
“In the meantime the Pumula South community continue to attack the couple even descending on their family houses, jeering them when they see them on the streets. The few of us in the family who have to live with here are also now living in fear, just recently her step brother Fact Tshaba was also suspiciously run over by a car and we suspect it’s all linked to Noxolo’s sexual preferences,” said the relative.
