FORMER President, Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe, deserves to be respected for the part he played in leading the country out of colonial rule and the time he served as President of the country.

Addressing party supporters during an inter-district meeting last week, Zanu-PF Midlands provincial Secretary for Security, Cde Owen “Mudha” Ncube said although Cde Mugabe resigned, his role before and after independence should not be taken for granted.

“We appreciate having Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa as our President today but that does not mean we should forget what the man (Cde Mugabe) did for the country, he should be respected and given his position as an elder statesmen,” said Cde Ncube who is also the new Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister.

Cde Ncube also praised the party supporters for maintaining discipline during what he termed difficult and trying times for the party and nation.

“I would like to applaud you for remaining resolute and maintaining the discipline that you are known for during the tough times. That discipline should be maintained, it will take us far,” he said.

Cde Ncube said the province was over the moon following the elevation and subsequent swearing in of Cde Mnangagwa as President of the country saying all hope was now on him to turn around the economy of the country. He called on the party to be united and eradicate factionalism from the bottom to the highest echelons.

“Let’s do away with factionalism totally, we no longer want to hear this is G40, this is Lacoste. That era is over. Let’s work as a unit and approach the national congress as one,” said Cde Ncube.

Speaking at the same occasion, Zanu-PF provincial deputy chair Cde Godwill Shiri said the province reaffirms its position to endorse President Mnangagwa as their 2018 presidential candidate.

“We are not going back, His Excellency is our preferred candidate and we are going to reaffirm that during the congress,” said Cde Shiri.
