FALCON College have postponed their annual cycling race, Tour de Falcon which was meant to be held next month because of renovations being carried out on the road leading up to the Esigodini school.
Tour de Falcon had been scheduled for 8 July but will now take place on 7 September which is when a portion of Falcon Road, to be used for the race is expected to be ready for use by the cyclists. Gavin Ewing, the director of sport at Falcon College said the safety of the riders was taken into consideration in coming up with the decision to postpone the hugely popular event.
While some parts of the road have been resurfaced, the other part was recently graded which makes it difficult for cyclists to manoeuvre their way around it.
“It is sad that we have had to postpone Tour de Falcon but for the safety of all the riders we had no option. The company doing the road has said that the road will be rideable by the 9th of September but it still might not be finished. We obviously hope it will be. Postponing any event at Falcon is disappointing but in this case this was the best decision to take rather than cancelling the event all together,’’ Ewing said.
The Tour de Falcon, a family fun day heading into final 15th year is usually held around the same time as the commencement of the much celebrated Tour de France whose 2018 edition runs from 7 to 29 July. It means this year’s Tour de Falcon will lose that Tour de France feeling as it will be held in September.
