OVER 35 drivers from across the country are set to take part in Saturday’s Peter Parnell Trophy race scheduled for Bulawayo Motorsport Park.

The penultimate race in the seven-series championships is set to be a tightly contested affair in the different classes as drivers seek to get maximum points with the national race heading for the finale.

Bulawayo Motoring Club treasurer, Frances Norman said they are looking forward to an exciting race as drivers seek championship winning points.

She said with petroleum company, Total Zimbabwe having come on board to sponsor the national race, there has been a heightened interest in the event and this year’s race is going to be bigger than last year’s event judging by the number of entries that have already been made.

“Last year we had just above 20 drivers but this year we have already registered 35 cars and we expect more to confirm their participation during the course of the week. The coming in of Total as a sponsor has reignited interest in the race leading to competitive racing.

“We look forward to an exciting day with great competition as racers would want to collect as most points as possible as we head towards the last race. Some drivers can win their respective classes if they open wider leads,” said Norman.

The last race of the 2018 National Race is scheduled for 28 October in Harare.

Last year’s winner, Mano Zevegolis will not defend the Peter Parnell Trophy as he doesn’t have a car after disposing of it.

Norman said there will be a meet and greet session, where the drivers will take time to interact with the spectators.
