For most filmmakers, a low budget or lack of funds may result in substandard or mediocre productions. However, for Sindiso Ndebele of Giant Technological Innovations (GTI), he sees this shortage of resources as an opportunity to try out new means of producing film and has as a result adopted Green Screening as opposed to the use of expensive sets.

GTI’s upcoming movie project, Bruteforce is a film shot in a rented one-roomed building in Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo but this may go unnoticed by audiences as Ndebele says that the Green Screen effect attaches different backgrounds to images that have already been taken.

“We live in the 21st century where everything is digital. Green Screen or Chromakey makes the impossible at almost zero dollars. For BruteForce, we will be using digital backgrounds, an innovation that is still quite new to our parts of the world.

Lack of financial resources should not deter us from pursuing our goals and dreams, there is always a digital way around any obstacle. All that is required is commitment, talent and vision,” said Ndebele.

The Bruteforce project was initially meant to commence in 2012 but after realising how much capital was needed if the film was to be any good, the producers went back to the drawing board and spent the following four years gathering knowledge on how best they could come up with a high quality project at a minimum cost.

“Towards the end of last year, the project was resumed; the script was tweaked here and there to align it with the current year. The break was worth it. GTI can now produce motion pictures with believable 3D animated backgrounds and Ultra HD and Dolby Digital quality,” Ndebele said.

Bruteforce is the story about Noma, a female detective who is stationed at a rural police station but is transferred to an urban station. The movie focuses on Noma’s transfer and the challenges that come with the transition.

“Through the film we aim to empower women and empower them by having a strong female protagonist. This can be an inspiration to other women to be their best selves,” Ndebele added.

Action thriller fanatics with an appreciation for romance and comedy will more than anyone else appreciate Bruteforce when it is finally released this winter.
