The Hwange Colliery Company sports office will host a Hwange All Women 10km road race at the Lwendulu Old ground on 25 November.

The inaugural event is set to bring women from various parts of the country. The race will be divided into the open (senior) and junior women categories with registration fees pegged at $5 and $3 for seniors and juniors respectively.

In an interview in the coal mining town last Wednesday, Hwange Sports Officer Kenny Nyape said the motive of the event is to create a platform where women are educated about various health issues through sports.

“This is an event in which we are urging women to come together to run, jog and walk so that we create an exercising female community in our town.

The platform will also afford these women to learn more about their health issues through sport in a social and more relaxed atmosphere. We will achieve that objective as we will engage the Colliery hospital and other civic women organisations so that they provide lectures on various health issues that affect women during the interlude before the presentation of prizes,” said Nyape.

According to Nyape, around 100 women are expected to grace the event as efforts to publicise the event and other related logistics are ongoing.

“We expect at least 100 women or slightly more for the event. Registration is being done at the Lwendulu Village (No 1) office and the registration closes at 4:30 pm on 23 November 2017.

For more enquiries people can call on 0771079269 or 0772372837” added Nyape.

Late registration will close at 2:30pm on 24 November 2017 with figures revised upwards to $6 and $4 respectively on the day.

In the open (senior) women category, the prize money is $100 for first position, $75 for second position and $50 for third position. Junior women winner will walk away with $70 while second and third slots will have $75 and $50 respectively. A $50 prize money will also be kept aside for an excelling senior above 40 years old.
