HIGHLANDERS technical sponsors, On the Ball Sports came up with the idea of the peppermint green coloured training kit, which Bosso accepted as a way of getting people talking.

When Highlanders launched their new kit in partnership with OTB at the end of November, the talking point was the peppermint green training kit, which some of the Amahlolanyama supporters felt looked blue, a colour synonymous with Bosso’s fierce rivals Dynamos. Some even went to the extent of suggesting that the colour could have been imposed on the club by OTB, who are also in a similar partnership with Dynamos.

Highlanders media and communications officer, Ronald Moyo has clarified that while the proposal emanated from OTB, nothing was forced on Bosso, with the club involved throughout the process of settling for colours of the kits.

“The idea came from the technical sponsor in terms of colours and we accepted that, it was something that was mutually agreed, it was not something that was imposed on Highlanders,’’ said Moyo.

He stated that they wanted something that could get people talking and peppermint green kit provided just that.

“For us we wanted a conversation, if you see that training kit, it’s not blue like what people are claiming, its peppermint green, its closer to green than blue. I know that most people might have seen a picture but with poor quality and so forth. For those who were present on the day of the launch might have seen that is not anywhere close to Dynamos colours.

“For me what I found interesting about that colour was that it was going to initiate a conversation and it did. In terms of marketing, in terms of branding we would have achieved objectives,’’ Moyo said.

Highlanders are toying around with the idea of bringing in away and training kits in a variety of colours so as to bring in diversity in the market.

“We want to bring a variety of colours, that day we launched just two colours when it comes to training kits but we have got lime green and so forth, there are a whole lot of colours that we want to play around with in terms of our playing kits, especial our away kits in future and our training kits as a way of diversifying the market,’’ he said.

Highlanders replica shirts are now available but only the club’s traditional black and white stripe is on the market at the moment. — @Mdawini_29
