BULAWAYO Chiefs put on a splendid performance to beat log leaders Bantu Rovers 1-0 in a Zifa Southern Region First Division top of the table clash at Luveve Stadium yesterday.

Former Premier League outfit Bantu Rovers who went into the match with a massive nine point gap against their opponents looked poised to stretch their lead at the top and affirm their return to the elite league which they exited in 2014.

The log leaders were on the offence as early as the first minute when veteran Zephania Ngodzo spotted Lenience Mpofu’s run on the right, the latter beautifully controlled the ball but his effort on the edge of the box missed the upright by inches with Chiefs’ goalkeeper Winstone Chiwetu already on the wrong side of action.

However, the agonising miss by Bantu Rovers seemed to have been the right tonic to awaken Chiefs as they started to take the game from their opponents with impressive build-ups involving Polite Moyo, Perfect Chikwende, Adrian Banana, DesireShumbanhete and skipper Moses Majika.

Chiefs took turns to miss glorious chances in the first half and continued to do so in the second half.
