MATABELELAND Busters picked up their third win in the National Rugby League when they thumped city rivals Western Panthers in a one-sided match played at Hartsfield Rugby Ground in Bulawayo yesterday.

Seven tries, five of them converted and two penalties, ensured Busters of the five points while Panthers scored three tries, two of them converted.

Busters led 15-14 at the break with two tries both from loose forward Moses Makhiwa while flyhalf Tarisai Mugariri chipped in with a conversion and a penalty goal. Panthers had their first half tries coming from winger Nigel Gatsi and the other from youngster Larry Nyoni, both tries converted by Mayibongwe Ncube.

After the break, Busters scored a further five tries through Courtney Mwatsiya, Hardlife Masunda, Lucky Sithole, Tyler Rowe and Dumisani Bhebhe. Mugariri kicked in a penalty goal and one conversion while Sithole booted in two conversions.

Panthers managed one try in the second period from Believe Nyakabawo which was not converted.
In another NRL match played at the same venue yesterday, OMs defeated visiting Gweru Sports Club 34-25 after carrying a 19-14 lead going into the break.

At Harare Sports Club, Old Georgians trounced Zvishavane Bulls 87-0 while 2012 NRL champions Harare Sports Club won 34-28 over defending champions Old Hararians.

In schools rugby matches played across the country yesterday Peterhouse beat Falcon College 23-20, Kyle College defeated Saint George’s College 11-10, Midlands Christian College were 36-21 victorious over Eaglesvale, Lomagundi beat Watershed 29-10, Goldridge edged Plumtree 14-12, Hillcrest thumped Hellenic 26-18, Prince Edward conquered Christian Brothers College 24-6, Petra beat Gateway 20-3, Churchill triumphed 13-10 over Saint Johns College while Milton trounced Gifford 33-13.
