BULAWAYO will play host to the Zimbabwe Junior Squash Tournament that will be used as a selection process for a tournament in South Africa later this month. The tournament will be held at Bulawayo Athletic Club, Suburbs Squash Club, Old Miltonians Sports Club and Christian Brothers College where Under-9, Under-11, Under-14, Under-16 and Under-19 players will battle it out to catch the eyes of selectors from Friday through to Sunday.

Zimbabwe junior squash coach Jonathan Makola said the tournament will see the selection of top five teams that will play in the Inter-Provincial Junior Squash tournament to be held in South Africa from 27 June to 1 July.

“Zimbabwe attends the annual inter-provincial tourney in South Africa and we will use the tourney to select the top five teams set to represent us there,” said Makola.

Last weekend the Matabeleland Junior Squash Championships were held at the Suburbs Squash Club while the Mashonaland Junior Squash Championship took place in Harare. Makola said both tournaments played last week served as compulsory qualifying events for selection for the Zimbabwe Junior touring teams that will participate in international tournaments later this year.

Zimbabwe hopes to send a team to the All Africa Junior U-19 Squash Championships, which will take place in Gaborone, Botswana from 30 March to 3 April.
