THE ruling Zanu-PF leadership from Matabeleland North Province has resolved to formally co-opt former Tsholotsho District Co-ordinating Committee chairperson Cde Believe Gaule into its structures.

Cde Gaule, who won a senatorial seat for Tsholotsho under the ticket of MDC led Professor Welshman Ncube following his expulsion from Zanu-PF after being accused of playing a prominent role in the so-called Dinyane Declaration in 2004 rejoined the ruling party in 2015.

Addressing a Provincial Co-ordinating Committee meeting in Lupane yesterday, provincial chairman Cde Richard Moyo said the party welcomed back Cde Gaule last year and he has been working at cell level. He then told the meeting that party structures in Tsholotsho recommended that Cde Gaule be co-opted to the provincial structures.

However, Cde Moyo then sought the advice from the meeting on what the provincial leadership should do with the case of Cde Gaule.

It was that point that Zanu-PF Politburo member and Cabinet Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo came in and said since the party has recommended Cde Gaule’s inclusion there was no need for the meeting to discuss the matter but should be co-opted since there were no objections from the meeting.

“We cannot discuss the matter here. There is already precedence from previous cases so we go with that,” said Prof Moyo.

Prof Moyo was then supported by other Politburo members Advocate Jacob Mudenda and Thokozile Mathuthu.

Meanwhile, the provincial chairman Cde Moyo encouraged members to start building support for the party ahead of next year’s elections.

“We have polling based elections this time around so it is a necessity that we build cells. Last year we had very good numbers and we need that again,” he said.

Cde Moyo, however, said campaigns should be done responsibly with respect to those who are already in positions.

He said members of the party should desist from de-campaigning those in leadership.

“People should not de-campaign people in leadership. We should respect sitting MPs until we are given regulations for primary elections. But at the moment there should be no such thing,” he said.

Addressing the same meeting provincial youth chairman Cde Mbongeni Dube said the province has only raised $7 000 out of the targeted $25 000 needed for the 21st February Movement Celebrations to be held on Saturday in Matobo District.

“So far we have $560 in our account and an additional $6 670 that was deposited and it came from Professor Jonathan Moyo and the Tsholotsho leadership,” said Cde Dube.

Cde Dube said the province was targeting to transport 20 000 people to the event as they have secured five buses so far and more transport was being arranged.
