A Conference of Heads of Independent Schools of Zimbabwe Lions boys Under-17 basketball team leaves the country on Tuesday for the Mic Basketball tournament which runs from 18 to 21 April in Girona, Spain.
The squad of 14 players got into camp yesterday at Westridge High School in Harare before departure for Spain on Tuesday. Other countries taking part in the tournament are Serbia, Estonia, Belgium and United States of America.
A kit handover will take place at Westridge High School tomorrow morning where the various sponsors will present to the players what they have secured for the team. Some of those who have come through for the youngsters are Pharmaceutical and Chemical Distributor, New Avakash International and Omega Health.
CHISZ Under 17 basketball team in camp in Harare
Chosen at an Under-16 tournament held at St George’s College last year, the youngsters have progressed through to the next age group.
Isaac Museba of Falcon College, the coach of the CHISZ team said the tournament in Spain should be a learning curve for the Zimbabwe youngsters. Last year, two Zimbabwean teams took part in the same tournament, with one of them reaching the plate final while the other team got knocked out in the preliminary stages.
Out of the squad of 14, Falcon College dominate with six players, followed by St John’s College, Petra and Christian Brothers College that have two players each while St George’s College and Hillcrest contributed a player apiece.
