THE date has been set for the inaugural Fasa Nhe Invitational Tournament to be held in Irisvale on 3 August featuring 12 clubs from the Umzingwane Social Soccer League Association.

The tournament is sponsored by Fasa Nhe Enterprises, a branding company with offices in Johannesburg to the tune of R15 000 and is the brainchild of the company’s managing director, Jerkins Moyo who comes from Ward 13 in Umzingwane District.

A seven-men local organising committee headed by Trust Mathe and including local Councillor Jabulani Makhala as well as two members of the USSLA excecutive has begun preparations for the tournament. The LOC assessed the tournament venue and agreed to hold the draw on Wednesday. The USSLA chairman, Paradzi Wedzerai lauded Moyo and his firm for their investment in local football. He said the league was excited at the football fiesta.

“We are grateful to Jerkins Moyo and his company Fasa Nhe for their investment in local football. We hope that all teams will be able to travel to Irisvale and take part in this exciting tournament, There is a lot of talent in Umzingwane District that is just waiting to be discovered,” Wedzerai said.

His sentiments were echoed by USSLA head of referees, Ronald Ndlovu. Ndlovu called the tournament a milestone event for Umzingwne football.

“The is good for football and good for Umzingwane. From here on football can only grow. This tournament marks a landmark in Umzingwane football development,” Ndlovu said.

Meanwhile, the tournament will have an added flavour with three ex-Warriors expected to be part of the proceedings. Former Warriors, Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Nelson Bandura, ex-Warriors, AmaZulu and Highlanders midfielder Mkhuphali Masuku and legendary Warriors skipper Peter Ndlovu have all been invited to attend. Moyo said Bandura and Masuku had confirmed their attendance while Ndlovu’s presence is still subject to his club duties at Sundowns where he is the team manager. Bandura spoke to Sunday News and confirmed that he will be in Irisvale for the tournament.
