Deep calls unto deep The Bible

The Sunday News

Sunday sermon with Apostle Chisale
Greetings beloved nation in the name of Jesus Christ. Psalms 42:1-2, 7 “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.”
In Psalms 42 vs 1, we see the psalmist soul that is thirsty like a deer that pants for streams of water. When his soul is thirsty the only thing that can satisfy his soul is being in the presence of God. In verse 1 the picture of water here is a ‘stream’.

Then in verse 7 of Psalms 42 we are now seeing water and these waters have become a river. We are shown in this psalm a consistent picture that is being portrayed of the Holy Spirit and that picture is of ‘deep waters’.

In this scripture ‘water’ speaks of two things. i) It speaks of the Holy Spirit and ii) it speaks of the word of God, the proceeding word of God as we see in Ephesians 5:26 which says, “to make her holy, cleansing[a her by the washing with water through the word.”

The bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 2:10, “these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.”

There is a call for the church of Jesus Christ to enter into a dimension of depth in the understanding of the things of God. We see in this scripture that it is the work of the Holy Spirit to help us know the deep things of God.

We discover that the Holy Spirit ushers us in all things even the deep things of God. There are things that are found in this depth of the presence of God. When we read the whole of Psalms 42 we discover that the psalmist was surrounded by calamity, pain and his soul was discouraged.

He understood that in all the pain he was going through, the only solution was to seek God in a deeper way because you cannot find God in shallow places. He can only be found in deep waters. There is something that the psalmist discovered about ‘deep calls unto deep’, meaning there are things that are in the deep presence of God.

When we look at the word ‘deep’ as an acronym it stands for the following; D stands for diligence, E stands for earnestness, E stands for eagerness, P stands for perpetual.

This is the attitude of those who desire to have a deep relationship with God. The bible tells us in Psalms 107:23-24 that, “They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; these see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.”

Depth has its own environment where it is experienced. The scripture tells us in verse 23 that they go down to the sea, meaning they had to move from the sea shore to a place in the sea which is said to be deep, where the true works and wonders of God are experienced. We all pray but those who seek God diligently are they that encounter His true power. Diligence denotes effort, labour and work.

Depth is not encountered and experienced by lazy people and those who are casual in their prayer life or study of God’s word. As we begin to partner together as a body of Christ, as individuals the Holy Spirit will begin to usher us into the deep things of God.

The end time church has neglected the ministry of the Holy Spirit. He is no longer important in our lives, in our churches and in our services.

We do all things and we don’t give him his place. That’s why the church of today is toiling in all areas because we are not being ushered into the deep things of God by the spirit of God. What has happened to the days when young men and women, fathers and mothers would spend hours in the presence of God without anyone complaining? In this season there is a cry in the heavenlies, God is making a demand for the church to enter into deeper dimensions.

When we talk about ‘deep calls unto deep’ we are talking about a deep dimension where God is found and not a surface relationship. In the book of Genesis 5:21-24 the bible tell us about Enoch.

This man had a hunger for the deep things of God. We see Enoch walking with God meaning their relationship was deep so much that God decided to rapture him.

This man understood the call ‘deep calls unto deep’. This is the spirit that God is looking for in this end time before the coming of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.

However for believers to operate at this dimension of depth that God is calling us to, they have to ask themselves the following crucial questions; are you Holy Ghost filled with the evidence of speaking in tongues because if you are not you cannot access the deep things of the spirit of God? Have you developed a consistent relationship with the Holy Spirit? Are you able to hear him when he speaks, when he nudges you? To the ministers of the gospel and the men and women of God reading this article, when last did you lay hands on people so that they may receive the Holy Ghost baptism? Let us embrace the ministry of the Holy Spirit so that he will reveal the deep things of God to the end time church. May the hunger and thirst be stirred in our lives by the spirit of God.

I would like to invite you to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and saviour, by believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that he is your Lord and saviour, and you shall be saved. May God bless you all and this beautiful nation of Zimbabwe. Amen.
