ZIFA Bulawayo Province launched a knock-out competition for all the 16 Division Two teams that kicks off today.

Acting chairman, Allan “Ripper” Mpofu said the tournament will give clubs something exciting to fight for besides the promotion race.

He said the tourney is sponsored to the tune of $10 000 and will see the winner walking away with $4 000 while the finalists will get $2 000 with losing semi-finalists receiving $1 000 each for their efforts.

“We managed to secure sponsorship from a well wisher who committed $10 000 for the tournament but for this year the cup will not be branded as he wants to remain anonymous although we are in talks for bigger funding next year.

“We again will meet the full costs of the referees’ fees for all the 15 matches with $2 000 being set aside to meet this need,” said Mpofu.

He said teams whose matches in the Zifa Bulawayo Province Cup had disturbances will not be allowed to play any matches at home.

All cup matches will be played on Sundays to ensure the league programme is not disrupted as league matches will be played on Saturday.

The final of the tournament will be the last match of the season.

The inaugural Zifa Bulawayo Province Cup, won by Bulawayo City, featured Division Two and Division Three teams and was funded by the Zifa Bulawayo Province.
