Emganwini Ward 26 win district Nac tourney

EMGANWINI Ward 26 won the Youth Education through Sport tournament held in last Saturday.

The tournament was a high volume programme bankrolled by the National Aids Council (Nac) for community members under the Nkulumane district which was conducted under the theme “Closing the tap to new HIV infection through sports”.

Soccer and netball were the sports that were contested for by the seven wards from Nkulumane district. They were 14 teams in total who participated in both sporting disciplines.

Ward 26 were crowned champions after defeating ward 25 by a goal to nil in soccer Flame stars, representing Ward 20 came third, after winning the third and fourth place play offs against Munyoro who competed as Ward 23.

In netball, Golden Girls competing as Ward 24 defeated arch rivals Flame Stars from ward 20 in a tense final match that saw them loose 10-7.
The winning teams received prizes of full sport kits, balls and other equipment. Other teams also received consolation prizes ranging from first aid kits, balls and other sporting equipment courtesy of Nac.

Speaking to Sunday Life Sport the district Aids co-ordinator for Nkulumane district Simangaliphi Moyo said the tournament was a success.

“The event was a huge success as we managed to bring services such as HIV testing, condom distribution and male circumcision to community members, while creating awareness and educating community members, especially the youth, of measures they can use to prevent themselves from HIV infections,” Moyo said.

“The youth education through sport is a programme that targets the youth through the activities they largely engage in as sports and our focus is on disseminating information on prevention,” she added. -@ J_Sihwa
