FORMER AmaZulu and Highlanders midfielder Farai Mujokoro’s son Lexington is carving a name in football, the same profession that gave his father bragging rights.

At a tender age of 15, he is getting opportunities that never knocked on his father’s door. Soon after leading from the front when First Mobile Sports Academy (FMSA) took part at the Gothia World Youth Cup Football tournament in Sweden last month where he scored a massive 28 goals, the youngster has reportedly attracted interest from both local and foreign clubs.

The youngster’s father told Sunday Sport that Wolseberg Academy is one of the Germany clubs that have enquired on his son’s services.

“Wolseberg Academy is one of the two Germany clubs that have made an enquiry on Lexington which is a great development. There are also two Zimbabwean Premiership clubs that I cannot name but they have shown interest in taking my son on board. All I can say is that we want the best for the boy,” said an ecstatic Farai.

Lexington, a Mpopoma High School pupil, is one of the players that were drawn from FMSA academies in Zimbabwe and Canada to play in the Gothia World Youth Cup, the largest international youth football tournament which saw about 1 700 teams from 82 nations play more than 4 500 matches on 110 fields.

At the contest, each player received a certificate. For teams that reached the finals, each player will got a medal. The finalists in the B play-off will got medals and a trophy. The two losing teams in the A play-off semi-final got a third place trophy and bronze medals during half-time of the final in their class.

FMSA is owned by Canada-based Zimbabwean, Isaac Mbedzi who runs a similar academy in the North American country. His academy in Zimbabwe competes in the Bulawayo provincial juniors league. Gothia Cup was first held in 1975. Through the years, almost a million players from a total of 141 countries have participated in the tournament.
