THE Government has finished constructing 13 new schools across the country while four others are nearing completion, an official has said.

The schools were built under the Infrastructure Investment Plan and is part of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s 100 day rapid results projects.

Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Deputy Minister Cde Edgar Moyo said the schools would accommodate pupils who were learning at satellite schools.

“All 17 schools are functional satellite schools with learners who are using temporary structures next to the new school. The students will move from these structures to the finished schools when construction is finished,” Deputy Minister Moyo said.

The schools constructed and those under construction consist of 12 primary and five secondary schools in eight targeted provinces.

He said funding to build some of the schools was obtained from OPEC Fund for International Development (Ofid). All the 17 schools are expected to be complete by June this year.

Some of the schools include Neta Secondary School in Mberengwa and Budiriro Primary School in Gokwe North in the Midlands Province.

In Matabeleland North, Tame Primary School in Bubi and Kokoloza Primary School in Binga are nearing completion while in Matabeleland South Mogkampo Secondary School in Mangwe is also nearing completion, said Cde Moyo.

Nyuni Primary and Secondary schools were completed in Masvingo Province.

The other 10 schools were built in Manicaland, Mashonaland West, Mashonaland East and Mashonaland Central provinces.

Cde Moyo also added that the ministry was not employing any new teachers this term.
