HIGHLANDERS and Dynamos football clubs will this week finally receive their long awaited brand new kits for the 2015 league season from their technical sponsor Adidas.
The two teams will play their Week 13 matches in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League this weekend in last year’s kit and will only receive their new uniforms during the week.
E-Sport director Edzai Kasinauyo, who is the Adidas agent in Zimbabwe, confirmed that the kits had arrived in the country and the two clubs will only receive them this week at the completion of a branding exercise.
“We are completing the branding process such as the names, numbers and PSL logo but they will be getting their uniforms before the end of the week. We experienced some logistical problems but we are happy the kits are here and they will be able to don them in their next games,” said Kasinauyo.
Highlanders chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede confirmed that they would receive their new kit by Tuesday.
Dynamos secretary, Webster Chikengezha said while they were aware the kits were in the country they were in the dark as to when they will receive the new uniforms.
Highlanders and Dynamos signed a kit deal with international sports apparel company, Adidas, courtesy of their principal sponsor, BancABC that has seen the two most supported teams in the country getting new uniforms at the beginning of every season since 2013.
The deal also saw Adidas releasing replica jerseys into the market although the uptake of the shirts has been low with most fans citing the price of $50 as prohibitive.
Most fans have opted for imitations that cost between $10 and $25.
Last year Highlanders revealed they will be changing their away colours from an all-white strip to black and red but they will start by changing the colours of the tracksuits for this season.
Adidas last year also roped in Kuda Mahachi as their brand ambassador and since the player has moved to South Africa it remains to be seen whether they will choose another local based player to fit into that role.
